FRAMES: NOTEWORTHY SURROUNDINGS

An exhibit of frames from several time periods: some gilded, others not; some small, others grand. Through October.

About the Artist

Susan B. Jackson is an accomplished conservator, whose specialty is gilding. She has been devoted to this art since 1989. Through her conservation studio, Harvard Art, she provides expertise and craftsmanship sought by prominent institutions and knowledgeable individual collectors. Over the past two decades she has been entrusted with conserving gilded period frames, mirrors, furniture and architecture by clients such as the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Harvard University, Yale University, Historic New England, the Massachusetts State House, Bermuda Government and for the US Senate. She and her team also take delight in restoring cherished family heirlooms, be they of historical or simply sentimental value.

Susan is a Professional Associate of The American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works and a recent board member of the New England Conservation Association. She also served on the Advisory Council of the Society of Gilders and is a Trustee of the Fitchburg Art Museum.

Her projects include: Frame for “Portrait of George Washington” by Gilbert Stuart, U. S. Senate Gilt coffered ceiling in the Veronese Room, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston Gilding on a pair of gilded Louis XVI gaming chairs, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Frame for “Charles I & House of Commons” by John Singleton Copley, Boston Public Library 18th century gilded mirror, Milton Historical Society, Milton, MA
