College Music Study and the Admissions Process

Dr. Alex Powell will talk about studying music at the college level, including the various majors, minors, and degree options to consider when looking at schools. He will draw on his extensive experience in admissions at the New England Conservatory, Cleveland Institute of Music, and Longy School of Music of Bard College to outline the application and audition process for students hoping to major in music. 

ABOUT OUR PRESENTER: Currently serving as the interim Dean of Enrollment at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Dr. Alex Powell has more than fifteen years of experience in college and conservatory administration. Previously, he has served as the Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid at the New England Conservatory in Boston and led admissions efforts at Wheelock College and the Longy School of Music of Bard College. Dr. Powell has given numerous presentations on college admissions in the performing arts and has been a featured panelist at many conferences. He served as an adjudicator for Classical Singer, NEC concerto competitions, Boston Lyric Opera, and VoicesBoston, and has been on panels for hundreds of conservatory auditions.
