Her teaching style is a blend of the rigorous, technique based Chinese system and the more open, free form Western style. She says that “everybody has music in their hearts, and to unlock your full potential, you must exercise both discipline and creativity.”

A prizewinner in the Beijing Flute Competition, Shan Liu has performed with China’s Central Philharmonic Orchestra, Beijing Chamber Orchestra, Indiana University Philharmonic, and Southwest Michigan Orchestra. She has been on the faculty at St. Mary’s College and Indiana University South Bend Academy. She also serves as Vice-President of Di Zhao Flutes.
