Laurel Martin & Mark Roberts Duo

Acclaimed fiddler Laurel Martin (Indian Hill faculty) and Mark Roberts (bouzouki, banjo, guitar) perform a lively set of Celtic tunes followed by an open session. Bring your instrument and jam, or just listen and enjoy!

Laurel Martin is a traditional Irish fiddler, known in the music community for her graceful, lyrical playing style. She has performed with many great traditional Irish musicians in America and in Ireland, and she cherishes the friendship and musical inspiration they bring to her life. Laurel has been a member of the fiddle ensemble “Childsplay” since 1999, and has toured and recorded with them. With her mentor and teacher, master fiddler Seamus Connolly, she co-authored a traditional Irish tune book and accompanying CD, “Forget Me Not,” published by Mel Bay in 2002. Her acclaimed solo CD, “The Groves,” was released in 2006. In addition to Indian Hill, Laurel has been on the faculty at Boston College, Phillips Academy Andover, and Wellesley College.

Mark Roberts plays traditional music on the flute, tin whistle, 5-string banjo, guitar, and bouzouki. During his long and varied career in music, he has toured and recorded with the seminal band Touchstone, played the banjo with the Red Clay Ramblers on Broadway in the show Fool Moon, performed flute and pennywhistle in the Jon Sayles film “The Secret of Roan Inish,” and taken his whistle on tour with Don Henley. Mark’s most recent recording is “The Gloup,” a flute CD with guitarist Dan Compton.
