It’s your time to play! Engage in person with your peers in a fun and challenging chamber music experience just for adult string and woodwind players and pianists.
Make great music with new friends in a relaxed and low-stress setting! Our outstanding faculty coaches will guide you through technical and musical challenges, and ensure your success in attaining a higher playing level. Music and ensemble assignments will be based on your skill level and musical preferences. Groups can self-determine how much music is covered, from a single movement of a challenging piece, to an overview of multiple movements or various composers’ works. Performances by each ensemble will be recorded and combined into a video showcase to keep and share with family and friends. Open to intermediate and advanced level strings, woodwinds, piano, harp, and classical guitar.

We will implement health and safety COVID-19 protocols for all of our summer programming. Some of our rules will include:
A complete list of the measures we will take, along with your responsibilities when in our building can be found on our COVID page.
Summer Night Music is open to intermediate and advanced level strings, woodwinds, piano, harp, and classical guitar. While chamber music experience is not required, participants should have strong technical, rhythmic, and reading skills. Students are grouped by instrumentation as well as experience and ability level.
Regulations and recommendations are changing regularly, but we will follow whatever rules for health and safety are required by state and federal agencies, erring on the side of caution to be absolutely sure that our community is safe! Woodwind players will need an instrument mask (made specifically for your instrument), and a bell cover to prevent the transfer of aerosols to others. Physically distancing will be increased to 10 feet for winds when playing.
All new registrants should be prepared to provide a video or audio recording that demonstrates their current playing level. This is NOT an audition! Your recording will be shared with the program coordinators to help in ensemble placement. Musicians who participated in Summer Night Music in previous years or those who are current Indian Hill Music students do not need to audition.
The faculty program coordinators will assign ensembles based on each person’s skill level on their instrument and their general musicianship. Everyone will be assigned to a single chamber group and will work exclusively with that group through the week, and have limited interaction with faculty.
Music will be sent to participants two weeks before the start date of each session of the program. Early registration is especially helpful to the faculty as it provides ample time to have placement auditions, form groups, and pick repertory in advance of the start date. Deadlines to register: for July session – June 11, 2021; for August session – July 4, 2021.
Of course we encourage home practice! Rehearsal time with your group is limited, so working out the difficult sections in your music in between rehearsal dates is appreciated by everyone.
Both in-person and online private lessons can be scheduled for those wishing to work through the technical and interpretive details of their assigned pieces anytime during the program weeks. During this transition time to in-person instruction, not all teachers are offering in-person lessons, and we have limits on the number of people allowed in our building at one time. Please contact the Music School office to discuss lesson placement and schedule. Lessons are not included in the Summer Night Music tuition amount and will be billed separately.
Because of the 4-week schedule it is essential that you are present for all rehearsals. For unavoidable conflicts, inform the program coordinator in advance so that arrangements can be made to cover your part.
For safety sake, the chamber groups will be recorded on the last day of each session, and a video program compiled of their performances. The video will be sent to participants to share with their families and friends.
We look forward to welcoming you to Summer Night Music! Use the form at left to ask us any questions you have about our summer programs.
