We will implement health and safety COVID-19 protocols for all of our in-person summer programming. Some of our rules will include:
- Mandatory mask-wearing at all times.
- Six-foot physical distancing at all times.
- Students assigned to small cohort groups with limited interaction interns and teaching staff.
- Students in programs with larger enrollments will be assigned staggered arrival and departure times.
- Thorough and regular cleaning of common surfaces.
- Pianos/keyboards used by students will be sanitized after each student’s use.
- Air purification units and/or other air filtering in all teaching spaces.
- Frequent handwashing/sanitizing.
- Short classes/rehearsals and regular breaks where the students will be outside.
- and more…
A complete list of the measures we will take, along with your responsibilities when in our building can be found on our COVID page.
In order to allow singing in the Explorers weeks, which is a key element of the program, we will have choral masks for all students and faculty to use when singing. These masks are designed to contain any aerosols or water droplets, and to provide extra space around the nose and mouth for ease in breathing and tone production. Choral masks are washable and reusable. An additional fee of $25 will be charged if a student loses or damages their mask during the program and needs a replacement.
Beginners of all levels are welcome to participate in the program, from students with no music training at all to those who have taken music classes or lessons.
The morning begins with Music Fundamentals which may include singing, movement and instrument playing, plus theory games and songs, learning rhythm patterns, exploration of different musical styles, and listening activities. Singing activities will include unison songs, rounds, partner songs, and 2-3 part harmony. Students will try out age-appropriate instruments and learn about how they work and sound.
The schedule will remain the same for the three sessions of Summer Music Explorers, but music selections, games, and other activities will be different each week so there will be a new experience for each session in which they participate.
Home practice is not required, but students who feel inspired to practice are certainly encouraged to do so.
Yes. We cannot offer makeup classes or refunds for missed days.
For safety reasons, we will record various groups at the end of the week, then compile and provide a video recording for students and families to share as a memento of their experience in Summer Music Explorers!
